Charles D. “Chuck” Cowan, age 81, of Derry and Pamlico Beach, passed away on Oct. 30, 2011, in his home. He was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Latrobe, a son of the late George D. and Wilda L. Long Cowan.

    Charles D. “Chuck” Cowan, age 81, of Derry and Pamlico Beach, passed away on Oct. 30, 2011, in his home. He was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Latrobe, a son of the late George D. and Wilda L. Long Cowan. Chuck was a member of Derry First United Methodist Church, LaMonte Lodge #568 of Derry, VFW #1989 of Indiana, Derry America Legion #0324, Mohawks, Westmoreland County Fire Chief’s and Fireman’s Association and Derry VFD. Chuck was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean conflict. Before his retirement, Chuck worked as a crane operator for Latrobe Steel.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew Dewey Clagett.

    Chuck is survived by his loving wife Beverly J. Ritchey Cowan; his children, Jana I. and her husband Kenny Reed of Derry; George D. Cowan and his wife Donna of Virginia Beach, Va.; Sallie G. and her husband Kerry Durika of Hanover; Larry S. Cowan and his wife Teresa of Hayes, Va; a brother, Bud Cowan of Raleigh; a sister Georgie Clagett of Washington; grandchildren, Jackie, Karen, Kenny Paul, Jeri, Julie, Josh, Jennifer, Sierra, Jarrett, Baylee, Spenser, Sara, Mackenzie, Skylar, Delanie, and Samantha; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Logan, Natalie and Addison.

    Friends will be received from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Duane Slade and the Rev. Charles F. Olsen officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chuck’s memory to Derry First United Methodist Church or Derry VFD. The family would like to say a special thank you to Excela Health Hospice nurses Vonnie, Laura and Karen and aides Linda, Melissa and Jackie.

    LaMonte Lodge #568 will conduct services at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Derry VFD will conduct services at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
