New TV Ad from the Burr Campaign: "ABLE Act" | Eastern NC Now

    Raleigh, NC - The Burr campaign today released its newest statewide TV ad, "ABLE Act," that highlights Senator Burr's tireless work to provide people with disabilities with a support system that allows them to reach their fullest potential. The ad comes as the Burr campaign builds on the initial $5.1 million announced in June by placing an additional buy that brings total TV spending to over $6 million for the fall general election campaign.

    The new ad features the D'Amelios, a family with two children on the Autism spectrum, describing the benefits that the ABLE Act will provide to their children and other families who have children with a disability. "Without Richard Burr our children and other people's children would not have the benefit of saving for their future," Mrs. D'Amelios says in the ad. Senator Burr helped write the landmark law that passed in 2014 and allows people with disabilities and their families to save for their long-term needs. Before the ABLE Act, people with disabilities faced losing access to important benefits if they had more than $2,000 in their name. Senator Burr has been nationally recognized for his work by Autism Speaks, the National Down Syndrome Society and The Arc.


    Earlier this summer, Senator Burr visited Bitty & Beau's Coffee Shop in Wilmington where the owner, Amy Wright, had this to say about Senator Burr's work on the ABLE Act:

    Port City Daily: "'It's nice to have him come and visit all the employees, especially since he was so instrumental in getting the ABLE to Work Act,' Amy Wright said, adding that she's thankful for the awareness Burr's work and visit brings to the issues facing adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 'It really validates what they do and makes them feel good.'"

• The ABLE Act enables individuals with disabilities, and their families, to save for their long-term care without losing access to important benefits like Medicaid and SSI.
• The law has been heralded as one of the most important pieces of disability legislation since the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
• Senator Burr is now working to expand ABLE accounts with the ABLE to Work Act, which lifts the annual contribution limit for those individuals who have a job and save their earnings in an ABLE account.
• Senator Burr has also introduced two other bipartisan bills, ABLE Financial Planning Act and the ABLE Age Adjustment Act, that continue to build on the original ABLE Act.
