Obituary: George Downing Cordon Jr. | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. George Downing Cordon Jr., age 81, of 2323 Burbage Road, Bath, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

    A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Clairs Church of Christ Cemetery, officiated by Craig Hagen and the Rev. Tim Hackett. Pallbearers will be Stephen Cordon, Terry Cradle, Mark Cordon, Howie Selby, Don Cox, Vince Smith and Danny Selby. Honorary pallbearer will be Keith Credle.

    Mr. Cordon was born in Beaufort County on March 30, 1930, the son of the late George D. Cordon Sr. and the late Mollie Poole Cordon. He was owner/operator of Cordon Backhoe and Dragline Co., a member of Belhaven American Legion Post 249, and a member of St. Clairs Church of Christ.

    Survivors include two daughters: Georgie Selby and her husband Timmy of Belhaven, and Cathy Burbage of Bath; a son: Rodney Cordon of Bath; two sisters, Louise Riley of Chesapeake, Va., and Erma Lee of Syracuse, N.Y.; and five granddaughters, Bridgette Elzey, Brittany Moore, Brooke Burbage, Caroline Elzey and Savanna Selby. Mr. Cordon was preceded in death by a sister, Cathleen Davis; and a brother, Carnie Cordon.

    The family will receive friends at the home.
