My mental check-up for Dementia | Eastern North Carolina Now

Every now and then I run a check up from the neck up just to see if I am still normal in an abnormal world.

Here are ten signs to check for dementia from this website, along with my analysis of each.  DEMENTIA

     1. Short Term Memory Loss: I often go into a room and forget what I went to get.

     2. Confusion:  Today's politics has me totally muddled. Where are the true principles candidates?

     3. Communication  Difficulties:  No matter how many post I write on BCN, I never feel anyone understands me.

     4. Inability to Recognize Sarcasm:  I took offense when my wife scolded me on a recent shopping trip.(   Shopping for the wife - A real short lesson)

     5. Mood Changes: Just a few minutes watching MSNBC or CNN sets me off on a rant.

     6. Loss of Function: Never Mind

     7. Loss of Interest: What was I talking about?

     8. Repetitive Behavior:  What was I talking about?

     9. Difficulties Coping With Change:  It wasn't like this back in the 1950s.  Everything made sense then.

     10. Frequent Falls:  I have not fell in over five years, but I have stumbled a couple of times.  Those things stopped shortly after I stopped drinking alcohol.

After careful consideration, I took a ride in the car so I could take some time to think.   At almost every red light and in every car I passed people where driving along talking to themselves.  That is when I decided that I don't have dementia.  How could I be mentally off balance when the roads are full of self-talking drivers. Some were even waving their arms and hands around like the were trying to convince themselves of something. It was then that I realized that I was normal in an abnormal world.

That is when my wife called on the cell phone and asked me to pick up some milk.

Thank goodness for my Bluetooth ear bud.

Seriously, please follow the link above and here DEMENTIA. Sometimes a little humor will prod someone to do a little research if you have older relatives or friends.
