    Mrs. Matilda "Tillie" Bowen Swain, age 87, a resident of 103 N. Wedgewood Dr., Washington, died Thursday evening, November 3, 2016 at her home.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Monday November 7, 2016 at Long Acre Chapel Christian Church officiated by Rev. Carol Steffa. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mickey Swain, Freddie Clodfelder, Ronnie Woolard, Jerry Giles, Kyle Clodfelder and Jerry Giles, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Swain was born on November 24, 1928, daughter of the late Dempsey Bruce Bowen and Alma Corrine Askew Bowen. She was a graduate of Pantego High School. On June 2, 1950, she married Walton E. Swain who preceded her in death on September 22, 2013. Mrs. Swain was employed with Tru-Temper as a secretary until her retirement. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Washington and a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship Circle # 3. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren, Ashley and Mallori. She loved to bake and was known for her lemon pound cake.

    She is survived by her daughter-in-law: Anita Smith Swain; her grandchildren: Ashley Swain and friend David Richard Nanney, III and Mallori B. Swain Marshall and husband Barrett; her great grandchild: Thompson Koy Marshall; her godchild: Todd Jones and wife Nan and their children McCrea and Champ; her brother: Bruce Bowen and wife Jackie of Plymouth; her sister-in-law: Chesta Bowen and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.

    In addition to her parents and husband, her only son, Richard "Rick" Black Swain preceded her in death on October 15, 2013 and her brother: Ralph Dempsey Bowen.

    The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM on Sunday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Memorials may be made to Long Acre Christian Chapel Church Fellowship Hall, 21861 Hwy. 32 N, Plymouth, NC 27962.
