    Mr. Columbus Delano Berry, age 75, a resident of Hwy 97, Hobgood, NC and a former resident of Belhaven, NC died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at his residence.

    Mr. Berry was born February 18, 1941 in Beaufort County, NC to the late Annie Midyette Berry and Robert Randolph Berry. He attended Beaufort County Schools and in his early life he farmed and later retired from the DOT Ferry Division with 28 years of service on the Pamlico River Ferry. In 2001 he married the former Barbara Winborne.

    In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Barbara Winborne who preceded him in death on November 8, 2013. He was a past member of St. Claire's Church of Christ in Bath, NC and a more recent member of Hobgood Pentecostal Holiness Church. In his spare time he enjoyed boating and fishing. Survivors include two brothers: Barry N. Berry of Bath, NC and Lanny Randy Berry of Grimesland, NC, one niece, Carol Lynn Persinger of Ayden, NC, his step-daughters: Carol Keeter of Scotland Neck, NC and Lorie Phillips of Alabama, one step-son, Robert Flanagan of Hobgood, NC.

    Other survivors include 8 step-grandchildren and 5 great step-grandchildren. A graveside celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at St. Clair's Church of Christ, 9814 NC Hwy 99, Bath, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.

    The body will lie in state Wednesday morning from 9:00 - 12:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E, Washington, NC for any one that would like to view. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Hobgood Pentecostal Holiness Church, 208 S Bay Street, PO Box 474, Hobgood, NC 27843.
