Tillis Emphasizes The Need To Improve Childcare & Employment Opportunities for Servicemembers and Military Families

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee's Subcommittee on Personnel, held a hearing to receive testimony on the Department of Defense single servicemember and military family readiness programs. Quality of life issues are vital to the sustainment of the health of the all-volunteer force, as the stressors that servicemembers and military families face are much different than those faced by other citizens.

Senator Tillis questioned military leaders about the need to improve childcare services for military families, as well as military initiatives to expand employment opportunities for military spouses.

Watch Senator Tillis' remarks by clicking here.

For the duration of his time in the Senate, Senator Tillis has been an advocate for military families and spouses, securing an amendment in the FY 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that ended the two-year time limit for military spouses who move from base to base and intend to keep federal employment on an installation. Senator Tillis has also worked closely with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Personnel, to ensure that military families have access to autism care for their children.
