    Mrs. Joyce Rae Jefferson Hardy, age 79, a resident of Washington died Friday June 9, 2017 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center of Washington.

    A graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday June 11, 2017 at Snowd Branch Cemetery officiated by Pastor Jack Holloman.

    The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home of her daughter: Cathy Modlin located at 1518 Yeatesville Rd., Bath.

    Mrs. Hardy was born in Beaufort County on March 22, 1938 daughter of the late Katie Irene Jefferson. She was a graduate of Bath High School. On February 7, 1959, she married James Philbert Hardy who preceded her in death on August 7, 1998. Mrs. Hardy was a retired bookkeeper having worked at Moore Motor Co. of Washington. She was a very faithful member of Snowd Branch Church of God as long as her health permitted.

    Survivors include two daughters: Cathy Modlin (Edward) of Bath and Angela Jo Hardy of Williamston; a sister: Jean Jefferson Morgan of Pinetown; a granddaughter: Brooke Leigh Modlin of Pinetown and a great granddaughter: Aubrey Leigh Moss of Pinetown. Mrs. Hardy was predeceased by a brother: Louis Harrison Ambrose and a sister: Rachel A. Tetterton.
