News Release:

WASHINGTON, DC     This week, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) continued his work for Eastern North Carolina veterans by voting for S.1094, the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017. The legislation will help ensure that veterans get the services they need by increasing the accountability of employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs. S. 1094 would create an Office of Accountability and Whistleblower Protection within the VA to review allegations of misconduct, guarantee employees are held responsible for the work they provide, and prevent retaliation against whistleblowers.

"We thank the vast majority of VA employees who do tremendous work for our veterans. But for too long, the VA has been unable to hold bad actors accountable for their misconduct," said Congressman Jones. "After selfless service and sacrifice to this country, our veterans deserve only the most exceptional help and treatment from the VA. I want to thank my colleagues in the House and Senate for ensuring they receive that care."

Over ten veterans service organizations, including the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Fleet Reserve Association, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, have come out in support of this significant legislation.

S.1094 has passed both the House and the Senate, and now goes to the White House for President Trump to sign into law.

Serving America's veterans is one of Congressman Jones' highest priorities. Over the past 12 years, Congressman Jones has cosponsored more bills to help veterans than any other member of Congress.
