Mr. Norris Harold Woolard, age 84, a resident of Highway 99 N., Pantego, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at his home.

    Mr. Norris Harold Woolard, age 84, a resident of Highway 99 N., Pantego, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at his home. A graveside celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davis Cemetery conducted by Scott Askew.

    Special music will be provided by Hope Mennonite Church Choir. Wade Allen, Doug Armstrong, Tink Armstrong, Harry Lee Mann, Tony McGowan and Benny Rose will serve as pallbearers. Leonard Harris and Hubert Watson will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at Hillside Funeral Service, and at other times at the home.

    Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 3, 1927, to Ashley Woolard and Minnie Waters Woolard. He was married to the former Hazel Allen on Oct. 28, 1950, who preceded him in death. Harold served his country in the U.S. Navy.

    He was self-employed as a farmer and mechanic. Harold was a charter member of the Pungo Ruritan Club and served the Pungo Drainage District as Commissioner for 50 years. He was a member of the Davis Cemetery board for 20 years.

    Harold was a member of Union Grove Church of Christ.

    Mr. Woolard is survived by his children, Melva Marlene Woolard and Melvin Ray Woolard Sr. both of Pantego; grandchildren, Melvin Ray Woolard Jr. and wife Joel of Plymouth and Elizabeth Ashlee Woolard and husband John Nelson of Greenville; and great-grandchildren Tanner Scott Woolard and Sierra Cutler Woolard; and his brother Ashley Merril Woolard of Virginia Beach, Va.

    In addition to his wife, Mr. Woolard was preceded in death by his brothers Roscoe and Preston Woolard, and his sister, Mildred Woolard Cutler.

    The family has requested that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.
