    Mrs. Frances Spivey Tarkington Crigger, age 90, a former resident of Belhaven, NC died Friday September 1, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.

    A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday September 5, 2017 at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church officiated by Pastor David Pierce. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery of Washington.

    The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

    Mrs. Crigger was born in Beaufort County on September 11, 1926 daughter of the late Ulmont Wilson Tarkington and the late Lena Frances Spivey Tarkington. She was a 1944 graduate of John A. Wilkinson High School and continued her education at East Carolina Teachers College. On January 3, 1946, she married Lloyd Knox Crigger who preceded her in death on March 17, 1963. Her love for children and commitment to their learning led her to a career with the Beaufort County Schools until her retirement. Mrs. Crigger was a member of Belhaven Lioness Club, Red Hat Society, Women's Missionary Union and Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Crigger is survived by three daughters: Linda C. Blake of Raleigh; Lorrie Hudnell of Winterville and Sherri C. Troop and her husband Tony of Garner; a son: Joseph L. Crigger and his wife Elaine of Holly Springs; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter: Betty C. Strickland; a son: Thomas W. Crigger; four brothers: Ralph Tarkington, Bruce Edward Tarkington, Clyde Tarkington and Wilson Tarkington and a sister: Grace Tarkington and a great grandchild.
