Ms. Elisabeth Warren "Betsy" Robbins, age 87, formerly of 324 W. Main St., Washington, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, 2012, at River Trace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Washington.

    Ms. Elisabeth Warren "Betsy" Robbins, age 87, formerly of 324 W. Main St., Washington, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, 2012, at River Trace Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Washington.

    A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown Chapel at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Washington, officiated by the Rev. Kevin Johnson. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Bill Lurvey, Hugh Sterling, Phil Mobley, Archie Jennings, Marvin Alligood Jr., and Ron Clark will serve as pallbearers.

    Ms. Robbins was born Oct. 21, 1924, daughter of the late Mack Thomas Robbins and Sina Taylor Robbins Moss. She was a graduate of Washington High School and attended Flora MacDonald College. Ms. Robbins worked for the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. during World War II. Later she was employed by the City of Washington in the Electric Department. She retired in December 1984 as head of Personnel. Ms. Robbins was a member of the Episcopal Church, a member of DeMille Book Club and Carrollton Book Club. She was an avid bridge player, loved people and loved to entertain. She was a friend to all and loved living on the river.

    She is preceded in death by her father; mother; stepmother, Lois Dowding Robbins; stepfather, John Havens Moss, and her half-brother, Tommy Robbins. She is survived by her special family: Michael and Jane Alligood; and David and Elizabeth Williams.

    Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at the home of Michael and Jane Alligood located at 220 Simmons St., Washington.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Episcopal church of your choice, Beaufort County Humane Society, P.O. Box 8, Washington, NC 27889 or to the charity of one's choice.
