    President Donald Trump authorized the release of more than 2,800 records related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy on Thursday, while other documents were withheld and are now subject to a 6-month review due to potential risks that releasing them would pose to national security.

    Even though several hundred documents were not released, there are still plenty of explosive revelations that are likely to feed conspiracy theories - especially at a time when Americans' confidence in the U.S. intelligence community is low.

    Below is a list of significant findings in the JFK files that the National Archives released on Thursday night:

    Document Cuts Off When Question Is Asked If CIA Killed Kennedy - A deposition given to the Rockefeller Commission on CIA Activities in 1975 by the agency's director Richard Helms raises potential red flags. One of the attorneys for the commission, David Berlin, asked if the CIA was involved in JFK's assassination.

    BERLIN: "Well, now, the final area of my investigation relates to charges that the CIA was in some way conspiratorially involved with the assassination of President Kennedy. During the time of the Warren Commission, you were Deputy Director of Plans, is that correct?"

    HELMS: "I believe so."

    BERLIN: "Is there any information involved with the assassination of President Kennedy which in any way shows that Lee Harvey Oswald was in some way a CIA agent or agent..."

    FBI Director Memo: Russia Has Evidence Claiming President Johnson Was Behind Assassination - A memo from FBI director J. Edgar Hoover to the White House three years after the assassination contained FBI information on the Soviet Union's response. (National Archive record)

    According to The New York Times:

    One passage of the memo notes that Johnson was considered virtually unknown to the Soviet leaders, and that their intelligence agencies suspected his involvement in the assassination:

    Our source added that "now" the K.G.B. was in possession of data purporting to indicate President Johnson was responsible for the assassination of the late President John F. Kennedy.

    The intelligence, some of which was gathered by a source who was inside Russia when Kennedy was assassinated, details how Communist Party leaders believed the killing was part of an "ultraright" conspiracy to "effect a 'coup.'" Soviet officials also claimed not to have a connection with Oswald.

    But...

    CIA Intercepted Call From Oswald to Russian KGB - "A CIA memo from the day of Kennedy's assassination outlined a CIA intercept of a call from Oswald, then in Mexico City, to the Russian embassy in Mexico. Oswald spoke to the consul, Valeriy Vladimirovich Kostikov, an 'identified KGB officer' in 'broken Russian'," CNN reported. (National Archive record)

    Oswald Met Russian KGB Agent In Department "Responsible For Assassinations" - "In explosive newly revealed FBI documents about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, it has been revealed that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald met a senior KGB agent months before the killing," the Daily Mail reported. "Furthermore the KGB agent Oswald met, Valeriy Vladimirovich Kostikov, was a senior agent in the 13th Department which was responsible for assassinations." (National Archive record)

    Confidential Informant: Lyndon B. Johnson was in the KKK - "Ned Touchstone, editor of 'The Councilor,' has been identified by a confidential informant as a member of the Original Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. The source advised in December, 1963 that Touchstone claimed that the Klan had documented proof that President Johnson was formerly a member of the Klan in Texas during the early days of his political career."     Suspected Cuban Intel Agent Said He Knew Oswald - "A cable from the FBI in 1967 quoted one man quipping Oswald must have been a good shot," CNN reported. "The alleged Cuban officer returned, 'oh, he was quite good.' Asked why he said that, the officer said, 'I knew him.'" (National Archive record)

    CIA Plotted To Kill Castro - "Some of the papers recounted the agency's well-chronicled schemes to kill Castro. One document, a summary of the CIA's plans to assassinate foreign leaders, recounted how the CIA tried to use Gen. William Donovan, the former head of the the agency's precursor, the Office of Strategic Services, for one plot. He would give Castro a contaminated skin-diving suit while the two negotiated for the release of the Bay of Pigs prisoners," The Washington Post reported.

    British Newspaper Tipped Off 25 Minutes Before Assassination - A newspaper in the U.K. received a tip from an anonymous caller nearly half an hour before JFK was assassinated, telling him to call the U.S. embassy for "some big news."

    According to the Daily Mail:

    "The strange call to the Cambridge News on November 22, 1963 was recounted in a memo from the CIA to the FBI, made public in the Thursday release of files related to the John F. Kennedy assassination.

    The senior reporter at the newspaper in Cambridge, England said he received an anonymous telephone call at 6.05pm GMT on November 22, urging him to 'call the American Embassy in London for some big news'." (National Archive record)
