Press Release:

RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper today encouraged North Carolinians who do not have health insurance coverage to enroll for 2018 through the Health Insurance Marketplace at HealthCare.gov.

The Marketplace is a way for people to find health coverage that meets their needs and fits their budget. By visiting HealthCare.gov, you can compare plans based on price, benefits and other features that are essential for you or your family members. Importantly, coverage cannot be denied because of pre-existing or chronic conditions like cancer or diabetes.

"As Governor, one of my top priorities is doing everything I can to help North Carolinians live healthy and productive lives," Governor Cooper said. "I want as many people as possible to have access to affordable health insurance coverage to make sure they and their families can get the care they need."

North Carolinians seeking in-person assistance with enrollment can visit the Get Covered Connector to find a local application assister or call the toll-free NC Navigator Helpline at 1-855-733-3711.

When you apply for health insurance through the Marketplace you'll know your costs before you enroll. Most people who sign up for coverage get help paying for their premiums, and you may also be able to get help with your copays and deductibles. Nearly 90% of current enrollees can get a plan for less than $75 per month, making coverage more affordable than ever before. Health care through the Marketplace lets you go to a doctor for regular check-ups and when you're sick.

To get coverage, you must take action before Friday, December 15. And if you had coverage for 2017 through HealthCare.gov, you should log in to your Marketplace account as soon as possible to review your options for 2018.

"Having affordable health insurance coverage is an essential part of being healthy," said Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Mandy Cohen. "I hope that all North Carolinians without coverage consider taking this important step today."
