Governor Cooper Proclaims Employ a Veteran Week | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

RALEIGH: As part of Military Family Appreciation Month and leading up to the Veterans Day holiday, Governor Roy Cooper declared November 6-10, 2017 Employ a Veteran Week in North Carolina.

"Our veterans have unique skills and experience in leadership and teamwork that make them excellent candidates for jobs in many areas," said Governor Cooper. "I am committed to supporting our veterans so that service members at our military bases decide to make our state a permanent home as they transition out of uniform."

Veterans can receive career services at the more than 80 NCWorks Career Center locations around the state. NCWorks staff are prepared to help veterans make the transition to civilian life and find employment opportunities that match up with their skills.

"The staff at our NCWorks Career Centers are trained to help veterans find work or continuing education that fits their skill sets and provides for them and their families," said N.C. Department of Commerce Secretary Anthony M. Copeland. "The NC Works staff and the employers who partner with them connect veterans to life-changing careers and opportunities."

"North Carolina's 800,000 veterans possess skills and leadership attributes that make them highly qualified for jobs across the state's various economic sectors, but many times it is difficult to connect those ideal candidates with the positions they can fill. That's why my Department has made it a priority to develop and grow partnerships designed to get veterans and employers in the same room and at the right time for that connection to happen," said Military and Veteran's Affairs Secretary Larry D. Hall.
