GREENVILLE - Dr. Vijay Chaudhary has joined the staff of Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center, offering a new emphasis on immunology to treat cancer. This branch of medicine, which uses the body's own immune system to diagnose and treat cancer, holds great promise for eastern North Carolina, where cancer is common.

Dr. Chaudhary is an immuno-oncologist specializing in cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder and urogenital organs. He practiced in this field at cancer centers in Wisconsin and North Dakota before coming to Greenville. In addition to his work with patients, Dr. Chaudhary will serve as director of Vidant Cancer Care Outpatient Clinical Services and will lead the genitourinary team.

"The model of cancer care delivery is becoming increasingly complex considering multi-disciplinary approach with exciting targeted and personalized oncology drug development in last several years," Dr. Chaudhary said. "I would like to bring forth value-based cancer care which would encompass high-quality cancer care at an affordable cost for the entire of eastern North Carolina that we serve in a team-based environment."

Dr. Chaudhary is accepting new patients with physician referral. The cancer center is located at 600 Moye Boulevard in Greenville.
