    Mr. Thelbert Clyde Leggett, age 81, a resident of Washington, NC died Friday December 29, 2017 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday January 1, 2018 at Oakdale Cemetery and will be officiated by Eddie Bowen.

    Thelbert Leggett was born in Beaufort County on June 13, 1936 to the late Ralph Gay Leggett and Fannie Lilley Leggett. On July 5, 1971, he married Mary Ann Wells. He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School. Thelbert Leggett was ordained to the Christian Ministry on Sunday February 20, 1982 at Old Ford Church of Christ in Washington, after two years of Ministerial Training. After which, he completed two years of college to complete his four years of school for the ministry. Thelbert Leggett graduated from Roanoke Bible College on May 11, 1985. He was 48 years old. He began his first ministry on July 1, 1987 at Union Grove Church of Christ in Pantego which lasted 11 years. He then ministered at Trinity Christian Church in Winton from June 1998 to June 2000. Thelbert Leggett ministered at Longacre Christian Chapel in Plymouth from May 2000 to present. He was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ.

    Survivors include his wife Mary Ann Wells Leggett of the home, three sons, Bert Leggett and wife Cindy of Richmond, VA, Stanley Leggett and wife Belinda of Greenville, Jeffrey Leggett and wife Eva of Washington, one daughter, Michelle Swanner of Washington, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one sister, Frances McCeldry of Washington and three nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Stancil Leggett on October 15, 1970.

    The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Old Ford Church of Christ Men's Fellowship, 6040 US Hwy 17 N., Washington, NC 27889.
