Dr. Robert Eugene Sandy | Eastern NC Now

    Dr. Robert Eugene Sandy at 90 years old passed away peacefully in his home on February 20, 2018.

    He was born in Uniontown, PA to the late Rose A. Furin and Joseph A. Sandy. He was predeceased by his wife, Maxine Curry Sandy and brothers, Ernest J. Sandy and Joseph F. Sandy. He graduated from Penn State University in 1949 and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1953. He completed his residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. After serving two years as a medical officer in the US Navy, he moved to Washington, NC to work as a radiologist with the Beaufort County Hospital.

    Dr. Sandy was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder. He also served as chairman of the Beaufort County Dept. of Social Services and President of both the Pamlico-Albemarle Medical Society and the Beaufort County Hospital Medical Staff.

    Dr. Sandy is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Sandy Warner and husband, Harvey; sons, Robert E. Sandy II and wife, Tina; Joseph A. Sandy and wife, Sally; grandchildren, Lauren, Anna, Timothy, Hannah, Robert III, Joey, and Patrick; great-granddaughter, Caroline; sister, Betty Jane Sandy Watson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Dr. Sandy's funeral will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial to follow at the Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Hillside Funeral Home on Friday, February 23 from 6-8:00 pm.
