Press Release:

Having selected our usual annual location, the Dare Center in Manteo, the energized Dare County Republican Party met Saturday March 10th 2018 to renew friendships, confirm resolutions which cement our mutual commitments to our US and NC Constitutions and to support President Donald Trump, our elected officials and each other. At this 2018 Convention we signed up 24 local Delegates to represent Dare County at the 3rd Congressional District and the NC State 2018 Republican Conventions.

Forty-five Delegates to the County Convention and 39 guests including one Alternate Delegate kicked off our meeting shortly after 9 AM and continued past 11:30 AM. Chairing the Convention was special guest chair and speaker Mrs. Michele Nix of Kinston, NC, our invincible NC State GOP Vice-Chair.

Resolutions that successfully made their way through the approval process addressed a variety of topics. One resolution honored highly respected veteran and current Dare County Commissioner Jack Shea, who is retiring from the Dare BOC after the end of this term. He gave a testimony of what it was like to serve in WWII as well as touching on highlights of his career and the threats of socialism spreading to enslave the world. Another honored Donna Elms for her many years of working for her country, helping get the Republican Party started in Dare County and her service as Chair of the Dare County Board of Elections. The Convention also unanimously approved a Resolution promoting GOP Party Unity and a Resolution recognizing and supporting Dare Republican Party Chair, Browny Douglas. The last Resolution that was presented for vote did not get approval but will probably come back again; its topic was a petition to support the intriguing idea of a New Convention of States.

Candidates addressed the Convention such as Dare County resident for NC Senate candidate Clark Twiddy and Edenton resident for NC Senate candidate Bob Steinburg. Others were incumbents NC House Representative Beverly Boswell, Dare County Sheriff Doug Doughty, District of Attorney Andy Womble, Clerk of Superior Court Dean Tolson and Dare County Commissioner Jim Tobin. Bobby Hanig of Powells Point spoke about his candidacy for NC House. Scott Dancey, running against US Congressman Walter Jones, was represented by his wife and children. A third candidate for US Congress, Phil Law, sent a message read by Dare County Chair Browny Douglas. Dare Commissioner Rob Ross was out of town so he addressed the assembly via Dare County Board of Commissioners Chair, Bob Woodard. Anne Petera, candidate for Dare County Commissioner addressed the body. Cheryl House, candidate for Registrar of Deeds spoke about her campaign.

Michele Nix spoke about the importance to our freedom to elect Associate Justice, Supreme Court of NC, candidate Barbara Jackson. She is on an eight-year term on North Carolina's court of last resort.

Our next event is participating in the St. Patricks' Day Parade followed by the Dare County GOP's Annual Trump-Reagan Day Dinner Fundraiser at Captain George's Thursday April 12th. It starts at 5:00 pm. NC Lt. Gov. Dan Forest will speak as our special guest. Tickets are $60 each which includes a donation to help local Republican candidates. Contact Cheryl House 209-324-6096 or Cheryl.house.obx@gmail.com to purchase tickets. The next Dare GOP meeting will be the second Thursday in May. See our website www.daregop.com or our Facebook page for details. The 3rd District 2018 GOP Convention is April 28th at the Greenville Hilton, 207 SW Greenville Blvd., Greenville, NC. The 2018 Primary election is May 8th. The NC State 2018 GOP Convention is June 7th - 10th in Hickory, NC.
