News Release:

"I never put a lot of faith in polls. But I have faith in the people of Eastern North Carolina and they don't want to be represented by a lobbyist who wrote over $170,000 in checks to finance the builders of the Swamp." - Congressman Walter Jones

Greenville, North Carolina     Washington DC lobbyist Scott Dacey has spent almost a quarter of a million dollars in advertising, trying to unseat Congressman Walter Jones. On Wednesday, Dacey put out a message to supporters saying he had some "exciting news" about a recent poll his campaign commissioned. If you read past the spin, you see that Dacey's own poll shows him down by over 20 points.

Overall, the poll shows Jones with a 20.6% lead in the 3 person Republican race, with Dacey getting the support of just 24% of those polled. Dacey sent the message to supporters in an attempt to raise money, saying he needs more funding to close the gap. Jones is taking these poll numbers with his typical conservative perspective.

"I never put a lot of faith in polls. But I have faith in the people of Eastern North Carolina and they don't want to be represented by a lobbyist who wrote over $170,000 in checks to finance the builders of the Swamp" Jones said.

Dacey has spent over $200,000 on media in the past 4 weeks, leveling attack ads against Jones. In contrast, Jones has spent just over $40,000 in media to date. Dacey's ads have been touting himself as a Trump supporter who wants to help "drain the Swamp". Jones has pointed out the fact that Dacey has been a Washington lobbyist for Indian casinos since 1991, (four years before Jones was sworn in to his first term in Congress) and that there is no evidence of Dacey supporting Trump until Dacey decided to run for Congress less than a year ago.

Despite Dacey's attack ads and the lobbyists' less than impressive poll numbers, Jones isn't changing the way he works in Washington or on the campaign trail.

"I'm honored to serve the people of Eastern North Carolina and they didn't elect me to make decisions based on political expediency. I will continue to be their voice in Washington and they will have their say so come Election Day" Jones concluded.
