The Beaufort County Board of County Commissioners Will Meet to Discuss the County's Business

    The Government of Beaufort County meets every month for at least one General Meeting to discuss and act on the county's business. Beaufort County employs the County Manager Form of Government, which stipulates that the board of county commissioners allow the county manager to set the agenda, and bring issues before them.

     This meeting is beginning to swing to the busier time in the commissioner season just before the the budget season with . The update from the tax assessor, Bobby Parker, may be the most important issue of the evening.

     The new tax assessments from the 8 year revaluation have just been sent out to payers of ad valorem taxes. The ongong explanation of this process by the tax assessor, the county manager, the county commissioners and this publication will have yet another moment in the spotlight at 6:00 pm on this month's general meeting's agenda.

Russell, These assessments surely are the April Fool's surprise. I still have not opened my new valuations yet. I will need a fresh 1/5 of Jack before I attempt that endeavor. Read the article on our last general meeting, which lists your options as to any argument that the appraisers are mistaken.

Stan, having received my April Fools tax accessment, I was floored by the value placed on homes on Hilltop Lane. Based on the last accessment, this is nearly a 300% increase in value since 2002. This is 162K to 483K value. How much are my taxes going up? Russ K

Latest Governing Beaufort County

North Carolina's Rate Bureau has requested for 2024 an annual increase of 42.2%, whereby North Carolina's Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has exhibited a great willingness to take a firm stand against such an exorbitant increase.
I reckon one could always argue that ignorance rests in the eyes of the beholder, but, I'm not taking that bet ... not in these Orwellian times, when so few of our fellow travelers know so little of what is real, and far too much of what otherwise might be terminally fake.

This morning’s update included very minor changes to timing of today’s forecasted impacts.
