    Jimmie Lee Strickland, age 85, a resident of Belhaven, NC, died Saturday July 28, 2018 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

    A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday July 31, 2018 at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church and will be officiated by Pastor David Pierce.

    Mr. Strickland was born in Nash County on September 18, 1932 to the late Spencer Green Strickland and Artelia Strickland. On April 17, 1954, he married Barbara Ann Denton. He was a member of the Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church and loved his church family. Mr. Strickland always kept "Smarties" for the kids at the church. He enjoyed small engine repair, talking with people, and going fishing.

    Survivors include his wife, Barbara D. Strickland, his daughter Kim Sellers of Mooresville, two grandchildren, Kristina Sellers and Timothy Sellers, and three nieces, Sandra Frick, Tracey Gay, and Michele Avery.

    He is preceded in death by his brother, Spencer Green Strickland, two sisters, Marie Gay and Katie Bell Avery, and two nephews, Tim Avery and Spencer Gay.

    Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church, 251 Edward Street, Belhaven, NC 27810.
