    William Harold Monroe, age 79, a former resident of Laurinburg, NC, died Tuesday August 7, 2018 at Longleaf Neuro Medical Treatment Center in Wilson, NC.

    A graveside service will be held at 3:30 PM Tuesday August 14, 2018 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Paige Davis.

    William H. Monroe (Bill), was born on December 2, 1938 in Marlboro County SC. He was a graduate of Laurinburg High School in Laurinburg North Carolina. He attended Presbyterian Junior College, North Carolina State University and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. He worked in the family business, X way milling Company, in Laurinburg. He was a lifelong member of Church in the Pines, Laurel Hill NC., a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Civitan Club both in Laurinburg. He enjoyed water sports and "quiet time" on his sailboat.

    Predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. DA Monroe, Jr (Vera), brother, John W. Monroe (Peggy- surviving) and sister, Rebecca Cashman (George- surviving). He is survived by his daughter, Melonie M. Lewis (Edward), two grandchildren Brandi and Jonah Jordan and his former wife, Jackie McCumbee Monroe- all of Washington NC. Mr. Monroe is also survived by a sister-in-law, Genell Bracey of Maxton NC, several nieces and nephews, a special uncle, James Monroe (Oneida), their daughter Marty and a special aunt Jeanette Smith (Earl) all of Florida.
