Mrs. Mamie Jefferson Blake | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Mamie Jefferson Blake, age 90, a resident of Spring Arbor of Greenville, and a former resident of Waterford Place of Washington, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice of Greenville.

    A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church of Washington officiated by Dr. Phillip Hayes and Rev. Scott Setzer. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Billy Braddy, Richard Barton, Mark Barton, Wayne Windley, Eddie Twyne and Clarence Beacham will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Blake was born in Beaufort County on July 22, 1921, daughter of the late William Alfred Jefferson Sr. and the late Mabel Spain Jefferson. She was a graduate of Washington High School and married James Elwood Blake who preceded her in death on June 21, 1992. She was a retired dental assistant having worked with Dr. William Kidd of Washington. Mrs. Blake was a charter member of Second Baptist Church of Washington where she was very active and was a former Sunday school teacher.

    Mrs. Blake is survived by: a son, David Barton and wife Jane of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Howard T. Jefferson of Aloha, Wash.; two sisters-in-law: Mavis Jefferson of Washington and Helen Jefferson of Hampstead; eight grandchildren, Stephanie B. Allen, Crystal Barton Watts, Mark D. Barton, Beth B. Twyne, Emily Gamiel, Elizabeth Gamiel, Jane Dare Barton and Richard Barton; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blake is preceded in death by a son, Stephen Earl Barton, and two brothers, A.J. Jefferson and William A. Jefferson Sr.

    The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
