BCCC Foundation Announces Darragh Foundation Scholarship Recipients | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following Darragh Foundation Scholarship recipients. Established in 1998 by Richard and Mildred Darragh, the Darragh family focuses on the impact of education in the communities it serves. The Darragh Foundation's mission is "Helping to Improve the Lives of Others." Scholarships from the foundation are awarded to continuing education students seeking their high school equivalency diploma and students working towards an industry-recognized credential returning to the workforce. Scholarships are awarded biannually and students must show academic promise and demonstrate need. The BCCC Foundation has awarded over $150,000 in scholarships during the 2018-2019 academic year. Scholarship applications for the fall semester are due on June 27. Registration is open for summer and fall classes, including through the Division of Continuing Education.

    John Blount, 61, is a commercial driver's license student. The husband of Dedria Blount, the son of John and Adell Blount of Plymouth, he is a resident of Grimesland. Blount attended Plymouth High School, and he plans to drive trucks and start his own business.






    Alexander Britt, 25, is a small engine repair student and son of Cecil and Leona Taylor of Williamston. The Chocowinity resident attended South Creek High School. He currently works at Lowe's as a loader.






    Natashia Colbert, 37, is part of the income maintenance worker program. The daughter of Lorraine Gordon and a mother of one, she hopes to start a non-profit for youth. Colbert attended Washington High School and holds a pharmacy technician certificate and an Associate in Applied Science in Human Services Technology from BCCC.




    Donovan Coplin Jr., 42, is a commercial driver's license student. The husband of Darlene Terry-Coplin and father of two is a resident of New Bern. He attended McKinley Tech High School.







    Amanda Fonville, 36, is a medical office specialist student. She is a mother of three, wife of Dennis Fonville and the daughter of Louise and Sammy Booth of Washington. The Washington resident attended Washington High School.






    Harmony Harris, 38, is the daughter of Marilyn and Ronald Gaylor, wife of Chris Harris and a mother of two. The Swan Quarter resident attended Manteo High School. She is a certified BLS instructor for Vidant. She plans to become a registered nurse within three years after completing the phlebotomy program. Harris currently works at the Vidant Multi- Specialty Clinic in Belhaven.




    Shannon Horton, 32, is an income maintenance worker student. She is a mother of five and the daughter of Nancy Battle of Washington. The Washington resident attended Washington High School.






    Winnie Washington is an income maintenance worker student. The mother of three is a resident of Greenville. She holds an Associate in Applied Science in Human Services Technology from BCCC.
