   Mr. Charles Kenneth Holland, age 79, a resident of 52 Abbey Lane, Washington, died Monday, March 26, 2012.

   Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Church of Christ and will be conducted by Ray West and Steve Hill. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Cedric Woolard, Joe Toler, Mitchell Harris, Charles Boahn, Clyde Cartwright and Donald Smith will serve as pallbearers. The members of the Friendship Class of First Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.

   Mr. Holland was born in Beaufort County on Aug. 15, 1932, to the late Ida Gray Holland. Following the death of his mother, he was raised by his Aunt Delora and Uncle Joe Holland. On June 28, 1952, he married Shirley Jane Marriner who survives. He served in the United States Navy where he received an honorable discharge at his retirement after 20 years of service. He then went on to serve as an electronics technician with the VOA where he also retired. He was an avid golfer, loved fishing, boating, camping and his yearly trips to the beach with friends. Mr. Holland was a member of First Church of Christ and NARFE.

   Survivors include his wife Shirley of the home; two daughters, Sheila Holland Smith and husband, Wesley, of Washington, Karen Holland Duncan and husband, Russell, of Washington; three grandchildren, Erin Kelly Duncan, Anna Gray Duncan, Christopher Charles Smith; six step-grandchildren, Wesley Smith Jr., Joel Smith, Geoffrey Smith, Matthew Smith, Joy Perez, Kristen Hill; five step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Darrell Holland, Gary Holland and Waverly “Bear” Holland; one sister-in-law, Gayle Craig and husband Jim of Topeka, Kan; and one brother-in-law, J.T. Marriner and wife, Sue, of Chesapeake, Va. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Beddard.

   The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

   Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ Building Fund, 520 E. 10th St., Washington, NC 27889.
