Press Release:

Jacksonville, NC - Rep. Phil Shepard of Onslow County today announced his endorsement of Dr. Joan Perry for the Republican Primary Runoff to fill the seat of former Congressman Walter Jones. Shepard finished third in the April 30th Special Election Primary, garnering 51% of the vote in his home county of Onslow and 12% overall. The Republican runoff election is July 9th, 2019.

"Having the privilege of knowing Dr. Joan Perry since her time on the Board of Governors, I have seen how committed she is to the Republican values of Eastern North Carolina," said Shepard. "With her strong conservative voice, we'll always have someone fighting for us in Washington. I have no doubt that she'll stand strong for our military and their readiness in training, no doubt that she will be an advocate for our military installations, and no doubt that she will help meet the needs of active duty family members. I'm voting for Dr. Joan Perry and urge all others to join me in support of this God-fearing conservative."

"Phil Shepard is a man of integrity who's dedicated to serving the people he represents in the State House," said Perry. "He hasn't bowed to political pressure or wavered in his advocacy for the conservative values we share, as proven by his solid track record in Raleigh. And he does it all with a smile that shows God's love. I'm humbled by his endorsement and consider his friendship a lifelong treasure."

Dr. Joan Perry is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where she was one of the first women to earn the Morehead Scholarship. During medical school at UNC, she married her husband, Jimbo, and stayed there for an additional three years to complete her residency in pediatrics. With the birth of her first son during medical school and second son during internship/residency, Joan quickly learned how to juggle the demands of motherhood and a career. Upon residency completion, she moved to Kinston where she and Jimbo added three more sons to the line-up. She later earned appointments to the UNC Board of Governors, Gov. Pat McCrory's health and human services transition team, and Gov. Jim Martin's North Carolina Day Care Commission. A dedicated triathlete, she and her husband have housed more than 20 youth and young adults who needed a loving home. They helped to start Grace Fellowship Church over 25 years ago and remain active members today.
