Press Release:

Democrats Push Vote on Murphy's Carolina Cares Legislation, Murphy Hides Support on Election Day

Kinston, NC     Today, at the last minute, State Rep. Greg Murphy pulled his name from the Primary sponsors of Carolina Cares legislation (HB 655) just prior to the bill's hearing in the State House which coincides with Election Day for the 3rd Congressional District Primary Runoff, featuring Murphy and Kinston pediatrician Joan Perry. See images below for documentation.

"Greg Murphy's dirty trick is an insult to the voters and a blatant political game to hide his longstanding support of a wide-scale expansion of government-run healthcare and further implementation of Obamacare in North Carolina," stated Perry. "There's a reason he's trying to hide his public record from the voters: it's the number one priority of Democrat Governor Roy Cooper and the Democrats in the legislature."

According to the News and Observer, "At the core of the [budget] impasse is Medicaid expansion. Cooper wants it. Democrats want it. But many Republicans don't, and they didn't include it in the budget."

For more information about the cost to taxpayers of Murphy's Carolina Cares plan, Perry launched MedicaidMurphy.com. The website documents what conservatives and nonpartisan analysts have said about Murphy's plan to expand Medicaid, which would extend government-run healthcare coverage to childless, able-bodied, working age adults whose income is 133% of the federal poverty level. Medicaid already covers those below the federal poverty level, those with disabilities, and children and other vulnerable populations.
