    Mrs. Betty Frances Smith Barr, age 70, a resident of 700 Wilmar Road, Vanceboro, NC died Monday November 4, 2019 at home with family by her side.

    A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday November 9, 2019 at Chapman's Chapel United Methodist Church, 3650 NC Hwy. 43, Vanceboro, NC. The service will be officiated by Rev. Bryan Jones. A private burial will take place at a later date.

    Mrs. Betty was born in Craven County on July 31, 1949, daughter of the late Wilbur Odell Smith and the late Gladys Bell Lewis Smith. She was high school graduate of Beaufort County Community College. She married Robert Barr, Sr. who preceded her in death. Mrs. Betty was co-owner and co-operator of TRC Construction in Vanceboro. She loved gardening and keeping her flowers groomed but the most important thing to her was her family.

    Survivors include her companion and best friend of seventeen years: Jimmy Corey of the home; a son: Robert Barr and his wife Patricia of Newport; a brother: Ronald Smith and his wife Patty of Cove City; a sister: Lois Fornes; a grandson: Michael Barr of Bridgeton and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: Bobby and Donald Smith and two sisters: Geraldine Carrow and Elitha Jenkins.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vanceboro Volunteer Fire Department, 375 Hwy. 43, Vanceboro, NC 28586.
