    Susan Austin McWhirter, age 85, a resident of Belhaven, NC died Tuesday June 30, 2020 at her home.

    A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday July 3, 2020 at First Christian Church of Belhaven officiated by Rev. Charlie Greene. A private interment will be held at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.

    Susan was born in Tampa, FL on June 30, 1935, daughter of the late Roger Quarles Austin, Sr. and the late Ruth Smith Austin. She was a graduate of Hillsborough High School in Tampa, FL and continued her education at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA where she completed her bachelor's degree in classics. On February 6, 1960 she was united in holy matrimony to Alan David McWhirter who survives. Susan was a member of Jean Ribaut chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and First Christian Church in Belhaven. She loved playing piano and cards and dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker and faithful Christian in her community.

    Surviving along with her husband: Alan of the home are her children: Dr. Jocelyn McWhirter of Albion, MI, Eric Malcolm McWhirter of Kunkletown, PA, Gregory Austin McWhirter (Doreen Custer) of North Granby, CT and Gillian McWhirter Bruce (Ian) of Hamilton, Ontario Canada; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Susan was predeceased by a brother: Roger Q. Austin, Jr.
