Williams outspends Lawson by 8 to 1 | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's Note: This article originally appeared in the Beaufort Observer.

Second quarter campaign finance reports show that Arthur Williams is spending big to try to win his race against grassroots candidate Mattie Lawson. While Lawson depends most on volunteers Williams is spending big for consultants much of it being spent out of state or the district. The top of the list is Cornerstone Solutions of West Palm Beach, AK. Williams has paid them $22,000. Of local interest, he has paid "Washington Strategy Group" which is reported to be Bill Tarpenning and Ashley Woolard $2250. He even paid himself $500.

The most interesting expenditures on the report were made to Jeremy Adams, who ran against Williams in the May Primary. Adams endorsed Williams on May 17. On that same day Williams paid Adams $900 for "consulting." Again a month later, on June 15 Williams paid Adams another $900.

Williams reported that he had spent $26,594.99 in the last quarter. That does not reflect total expenditures, which were not fully reported on his most recent report.

Williams' also reported taking in $14,600.93 in the quarter. Again he did not report total receipts. Included in that $14 thousand was a $5000 contribution from himself, making himself his largest contributor. Those reported to have given $1000 during the quarter were: James Russell Boyd of Washington, Lawrence Davenport of Greenville, Jasper Lewis of Greenville, Collice Moore of Greenville, Parker Overton of Greenville and Walter Williams of Greenville.

For the Second Quarter Mattie Lawson's Committee reported receipts of $4995.30 with expenditures of $3172.07. Most of Lawson's receipts came from small contributions. She reported no thousand dollar donors.

Williams bought Adams endorsement, just like he bought Walter Jones and the Woolard / Tarpening support. These people are all political whores, and cheap whores, at that. Jones was the cheapest. He only cost Williams $1,000. Adams was more expensive at $1,800. The two-some of Tarpening and Woolard was $2,500.

I wonder how much it will cost Obama to buy Woolard's vote as a presidential elector if the 3rd district is foolish enough to leave him in a position to sell his vote?
