BCCC Announces Darragh Foundation Scholarship Recipients | Eastern North Carolina Now

    The Beaufort County Community College Foundation is proud to announce the following scholarship recipients for the Darragh Foundation Scholarship. These scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in short-term credential programs in Continuing Education. Summer classes in Continuing Education are open for registration.

    Established in 1998 by Richard and Mildred Darragh, the Darragh family focuses on the impact of education in the communities it serves. The Darragh Foundation's mission is "Helping to Improve the Lives of Others." Scholarships from the foundation are awarded to Continuing Education students seeking their high school equivalency diploma and students working towards an industry-recognized credential returning to the workforce. Scholarships are awarded biannually and students must show academic promise and demonstrate need.


    Tracie Cherry, 41, is a Washington resident who is part of the nurse aide program. Cherry attended Washington High School and holds a Nurse Aide I Certificate. The mother of one is the daughter of Pat Rowe of Blounts Creek and Ed Cherry of Washington. She plans to attend nursing school.






    Chastity Dudley, 34, is a Washington resident who is part of the nail technician program. Dudley attended North Pitt High School and holds degrees in medical billing and retail sales. The mother of five is the partner of Latasha Satchell and the daughter of Jimmie Dudley and Linda Clemmons. She currently works at Quality Home Care.





    Juan Grimes, 38, is an Edwards resident and part of the heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC) program. Grimes attended Pamlico County High School. He plans to run his own business.







    Yasmin Outlaw, 29, is a Swan Quarter resident and part of the nurse aide program. Outlaw attended Millbrook High School. She currently works at Cross Creek Nursing Home as a receptionist/patient care associate and plans to work as a physical therapist.






    Angela Smith, 41, is a Bath resident and a part of the real estate program. Smith attended Northside High School and holds an Associate in Applied Science in Paralegal Technology. The mother of two is the wife of Darren Smith and the daughter of Roy and Pam O'Neal. She plans to work as a real estate broker.





    Chrystal Stanley, 37, is a Grimesland resident and a part of the phlebotomy program. Stanley earned a GED at BCCC. The mother of four plans to continue her education. She currently works at Vidant Beaufort Health as a technician.






    Starlyn Swain, 18, is a Hyde County resident who is part of the pharmacy technician program. Swain attended Mattamuskeet Early College High School and holds an Associate in Arts and an Associate in Science. She plans to attend pharmacy school.






    Paulette Western, 36, is a Greenville resident who is part of the medical coding & billing program. Western attended Washington High School and holds an Associate in Applied Science in Medical Office Administration. She is the daughter of Michael and Claudia Hopkins of Washington. She plans to become a medical coder.
