March 16, 1955 – May 23, 2021

Kim Joy Dotson, age 66, a resident of Washington, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May. 24, 2021, at her home.

She was born on March 16, 1955 to Reverend Robert M. Southern and Betty Jo Ashworth Southern Brazier in Greensboro, NC.

Kim obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing at Beaufort County Community College in 1989. As a nurse, Kimberly mastered the many specialties within the nursing field to go on to become a traveling nurse for many years. It was the smallest patients who gained the most attention from her when she used her gift to bring new life into the world as a Labor and Delivery Nurse.

A woman with a huge heart, there were many things that she loved. All things in nature, the sun, moon, water, dogs, playing the piano, all music (especially Southern Rock), but nothing compared to the love that she had for her family.

Kim was preceded in death by her father, Reverend Robert M. Southern Sr., stepfather J. H. Brazier, sister Sheila Southern, ex-husband James Tyson, and her husband Michael Jack Dotson.

Kim is survived by her mother; Betty Jo Ashworth Southern Brazier, daughter and son-in law; Scarlette and James Broadway; son and daughter in law Daniel and Patsy Tyson; daughter and fiancée Angel Dotson and Sam Adams; grandson Justin Tyson (Fiancée: Chelsea Woolard); granddaughters: Amberly Keech and Bryanna Summers; grandson Hunter Summers (Fiancée: Cassidy Alligood), granddaughters: Aria Sayas and Harmony Sayas; her brother Rob Southern, Jr.; six great grandchildren, two nieces, and a nephew.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service & Washington Funeral & Cremation is assisting the Dotson family.
