    William Rivers (Bill) Sanderson, 87 years of age passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at home in Bath, North Carolina after a prolonged illness.

    Bill was born January 29, 1934 to the late Tim and Alice Sanderson. He was the younger brother of Frances Sanderson Harris who preceded him in death. Bill was a 1952 graduate of Bath High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from North Carolina State University after serving in the United States Marine Corps.

    Bill married Barbara Webster Sanderson in 1955.

    He is survived by his wife Barbara and children Susan Sanderson Bolejack and William Rivers Sanderson, Jr. His son Neal Thomas Sanderson preceded him in death.

    He is survived by three grandchildren, Thomas Rivers Sanderson, Kristin Elizabeth Blackman and husband Derek, and Jennifer Ann Sanderson. He is also survived by nephews and nieces Tom Harris, Tim Harris, Tony Harris, Walter Waters, Janet Waters Kendrick and Melinda Waters Perry.

    He worked as a county extension agent in Pitt County, NC, a bank branch manager and then as a real estate broker in Sylva, NC before he and Barbara moved back to eastern North Carolina.

    At his request there will be no service or visitation.
