    Gene Whitaker, age 73, of Washington, passed away on August 1, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

    He was born in Washington on October 27, 1947, to the late Redden and Bessie (Woolard) Whitaker in Washington where he lived his entire life. A man who loved the outdoors, Gene had a passion for farming and spending time in the field. Taking care of his yard brought great satisfaction to him. Children were another love, and he took great pride in helping them with any project.

    Gene is survived by his loving spouse Sue, two sons, Kevin Whitaker (Amy Crick) and Eric Whitaker (Stacy Cutler); Daughter, Kristi Baynor (Eric Baynor); two granddaughters, Erica Baynor, and Chloe Whitaker; two grandsons, Braxton Baynor and Maddox Whitaker; brother, Phillip Whitaker; sister, Rita Dickerson; and several nieces and nephews.

    Graveside services will be held at Pamlico Memorial Gardens on Wednesday August 4, 2021 at 2pm with Pastor Mike Caton officiating.

    A visitation will take place at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Washington Funeral & Cremation from 12:30–1:30.
