Italians vow to block rail lines in protest against vaccine passports | Eastern NC Now

protests also mounted in Italian parliament against vaccine passports

ENCNow

Opponents of vaccine passports in Italy have vowed to block the country's rail lines in protest over new vaccine passport rules requiring the so-called "green pass" to ride trains.  As in Germany, elements from both the left and the right have united against government virus overreach.  Shutting down the rail lines would impact transportation of goods as well as passengers.  Italy's caretaker government under Mario Draghi says it will try to keep the rail lines open.

When Draghi presented the new rules in parliament, he was met with a protest on the floor of the parliament by members of the ultra-conservative Brothers of Italy party, which polls show has moved up in support to become Italy's second largest party, behind the populist / nationalist right League Party of Matteo Salvini, which is running first.

Elements of both the left and right have joined forces to fight government overreach on vaccine passports.  That was apparent in mass protests in Rome and Milan last weekend against the green pass, which turned violent.  Several members of the news media were physically attacked during the protests, probably due to perceived bias in their reporting on virus issues.
