Gallup poll: party preference shifts 14 points in favor of Republicans in 2021

Gallup regularly polls American voters on their party preferences and their quarterly polls on this subject have seen a 14 point shift in favor of Republicans over the course of 2021. In the first quarter the Democrats had a 9 point advantage in those who considered themselves Democrat or leaning Democrat, but by the fourth quarter that had shifted to a 5 point advantage for those considering themselves Republican or leaning Republican, tying the highest score Republicans had ever received during the time Gallup has conducted these polls.
