    Mr. Robert Edward Fleming, Jr., age 73, a resident of Washington, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Oakdale Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Darren Walker.

    Mr. Fleming was born in Beaufort County on November 10, 1948. He was the son of the late Robert Edward Fleming, Sr., and Annie Laura Evett Fleming and raised by his aunt, Mary Evett. Mr. Fleming graduated from Washington High School. He was a retired smoke chaser for the N.C. Forestry Service. Mr. Fleming served in the U.S. Army where he played in the band. He enjoyed golf and played in various softball, basketball, and bowling leagues. He played TAPS for many occasions. Mr. Fleming was a member of Wanoca Presbyterian Church.

    Mr. Fleming is survived by his son, Chris Harris and wife, Gwen of Washington; granddaughter, Emily Harris Furbee and husband, Caleb of Washington; Krista Jones and James R. Jones, both of Washington; extended family, Crystal Watts, and husband, Will of Simpson, Jasmine Vickery and husband, Jacob, and son, Greyson; Rebecca Williamson and husband, Andy, and daughter, Kayla Jordan; Britany Hanchey and husband, Austin; Mike Barton; and Peggy Edwards all of Washington; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaufort County Humane Society, P.O. Box 33, Washington, N.C. 27889 or an animal rescue organization.
