In Defence of Ed Goodwin | Eastern NC Now

Ed Goodwin, a Chowan County commissioner, would like to be the next Secretary of State, and I hope that he wins the election.

ENCNow
Ed Goodwin, a Chowan County commissioner, would like to be the next Secretary of State, and I hope that he wins the election. As much as I like his vision of how he would manage the office of Secretary of State, I dislike Elaine Marshal, her style and her politics. While listening to her speeches during her U.S. Senate bid against Richard Burr in 2010, she frightened me with her ultra liberal view of big government.

Mr. Goodwin has pointed out that we have an unfriendly business climate due to excessive regulations and high taxes. He views the Secretary of State as being vital to the growth of North Carolina. If elected, he plans to visit every county in NC, talk to business owners and find out what they need to restart the economy, and work to re-energize our business communities. We must work with business not against them.

Mr. Goodwin is a farmer and retired business owner, and he is retired from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. North Carolina is no longer isolated from the world as it was in the past. It has become a player on the world stage with its produce and manufacturing in demand world wide. Foreign travel has broadened Mr. Goodwin's appreciation of other peoples and cultures. Also with his experience with criminal investigations, he is well equipped to uncover fraud.

Mr. Goodwin is bringing national issues into the race, and well he should. Everything that effects the Federal government affects North Carolina. He is against the federal health care law (Obama Care). He is against taxpayer abortions, and he would like to lower taxes. He is a supporter of the Second Amendment.

Ms. Marshall has been on the state payroll for 19 years, first as a State Senator and then as Secretary of State. I think that the taxpayers of North Carolina have supported her long enough, and it is time retire with her millions in state retirement funds.

Since Governor Bev Perdue will no longer be governor, and it appears that the new governor will be a Republican, we should make a clean sweep and replace all of the Perdue Democrats. If McCrory is the new governor, and it appears that he will be, then he will need all of his cabinet members to be loyal to him, and not someone who is holding a grudge for replacing the Democratic governor.

Ms. Marshall supported and attended the Occupy Raleigh event which is a group that has no respect for private property or the rule of law. In fact, they advocate the overthrow of our system of government and the destruction of our way of life.

Ms. Marshall has raised over $300,000 for her campaign, while Mr. Goodwin has raised only $60,000. Mr. Goodwin has the message while Ms. Marshall has the money. However, the poll results show that Mr. Goodwin's message is resonating with the voters.

Ms. Marshall, as are most Democrats, is steadfastly against voter ID. She has stated that there is no need for voter ID because there is no fraud in North Carolina. She went on to blame the backers of voter ID of committing fraud just to make it an issue. The majority of the voters in NC want voter ID, and it is Bev Perdue and Elaine Marshall who have stood in the way of reform.

The Voter Integrity Project presented the N.C. Board of Elections with the names of 30,000 dead people who are still registered to vote. The project director Jay DeLancy said, "Since there is no voter ID law in North Carolina, anybody can walk in and claim to be anyone else."

The rolls of registered voters are supposed to be updated every month when the state Department of Health and Human Services gives a list of all death certificates received that month to the state Board of Elections. However, the process is slow and fraught with errors.

In 2009, 261 cases of voter fraud were sent to local district attorney's offices. This summer DeLancy sued to have 528 Wake County residents removed from the voter roles because they were not U.S. citizens.

The voters of North Carolina want the voter ID law passed and signed by the new governor, and we want a Secretary of State who supports the wishes of the citizens of North Carolina. And that would be ED GOODWIN. Who are you voting for? ED GOODWIN.
