    Mr. Preston Elwood Jones, Jr., age 84, a resident of Washington, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022.

    A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, March 18, 2022, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Pastor Gillian Pollock.

    Mr. Jones was born in Sampson County on February 11, 1938. He was the son of the late Preston Elwood Jones, Sr., and Hulda Bethune Jones. Mr. Jones received his Batchelor's degree from Western Carolina University and his master's degree from East Carolina University. He was a school principal for over 30 years serving kindergarten, elementary and junior high schools in the Fayetteville area. Early in his career, Mr. Jones was the youngest principal in the state of North Carolina. While living in Fayetteville, he was a member of several clubs including the Optimist Club. After moving to Washington, Mr. Jones joined the Bunyan Ruritan Club. He was a member and deacon of the First Christian Church in Washington. In his spare time, Mr. Jones enjoyed golfing and fishing.

    On November 22, 1962, Mr. Jones married the former Patricia Cameron, who survives.

    Surviving with his wife are his son, Preston Elwood Jones III and wife, Carrie C. Jones of Garner and granddaughter, Victoria Jones.
