Out of state dark money tries to buy appellate court races in NC | Eastern NC Now

backs establishment slate

ENCNow

Out of state special interest money is pouring in to back an establishment slate of three establishment candidates in the NC Republican primaries for Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.  As of weeks ago, $600,000 had already been poured in.  The three establishment candidates they are backing are Trey Allen for Supreme Court, Beth Freshwater-Smith against conservative incumbent Donna Stroud for Court of Appeals, and Michael Stading for Court of Appeals.  It is likely that additional funds have been poured in since the last report.

Allen, who has never been a judge, is running against conservative Court of Appeals Judge April Wood for the Supreme Court seat.
