Mrs. Emma Ruth "Trudy" Lancaster Gurganus | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Emma Ruth "Trudy" Lancaster Gurganus, age 86, a resident of 1141 Water Road, Washington, NC, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital of Washington, NC.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Kent Gurganus. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Floyd Gurganus, Bud Brooks, Samuel Smith, Beau Swazzo, Bryant Hardison and Billy Thomas will serve as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Gurganus was born in Beaufort County, NC, on December 23, 1925, to the late William Henry Lancaster and Emma Mears Lancaster. On September 4, 1951, she married Luther Lee Gurganus, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Gurganus was a homemaker, a former member of the Beaufort County Grange and a member of Athen's Chapel Church of Christ.

    Mrs. Gurganus is survived by two children, Anna Cook and husband Daniel of Elizabethtown, Ky. and Louis Gurganus and wife Polly of Monroe, NC; two sisters, Marie Larkie of Jonesboro, GA and Mae Morgan of Washington, NC; five grandchildren, Lee Ann King, Anita Goodin, Danielle Arthur, Brandy Gurganus and Louis Paul Gurganus, Jr. and ten great-grandchildren, Andrew Priddy, Logan Goodin, Matthew Cook, Trudy Arthur, Brandon Gurganus, Brooke Avant, Karly Gurganus, Sarah Gurganus, Emily Gurganus and Alan VanHoose.

    In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gurganus is preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Lancaster and Herndon Lancaster and a sister, Margaret Brooks.

    The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the home located at 1141 Water Road, Washington, NC 27889 and on Sunday, November 18, 2012, from 1:00 p.m.-1:45 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Athen's Chapel Church of Christ, 3407 NC 92 East, Bath, NC 27808.
