Mrs. Hilda Evans Bass | Eastern NC Now

   Mrs. Hilda Evans Bass, age 89, a resident of Washington, died Thursday evening, Dec. 27, 2012, at Ridgewood Manor of Washington.

   A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens of Washington, officiated by Dr. Michael Price and Rev. Carol Dean. The family will receive friends following the service at the First Christian Church of Washington.

   Mrs. Bass was born on Aug. 14, 1923, to Claude C. Evans and Ruth Meade Evans. She was married to the late Cyril K. Cratch, who preceded her in death on July 15, 1969. She later married William E. Bass Jr. who died in November of 1986. As a resident of Washington for most of her life, Mrs. Bass had a lengthy career as an accountant for Beaufort County until her retirement. Afterwards, she enjoyed travelling with friends and was heavily involved with Senior Citizens throughout eastern North Carolina, including being a cheerleader for the Senior Olympics. Mrs. Bass was also a dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Washington, where she served in several voluntary capacities.

   Mrs. Bass is survived by her sons, Sherald L. Cratch, of Greensboro, and Kenneth W. Cratch and his wife Beverly of Washington, and a grandson, Robert C. Cratch of Greensboro.
