Mrs. Betty Lou Crawford Harris, age 86, a resident of Old Ford, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at ECU Health Bertie Hospital in Windsor.

    Mrs. Betty Lou Crawford Harris, age 86, a resident of Old Ford, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at ECU Health Bertie Hospital in Windsor.

    A celebration of life will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Vanceboro Masonic Lodge, 630 Farm Life Avenue, Vanceboro, conducted by Zak Manning.

    Mrs. Harris was born in Craven County on December 18, 1935. She was the daughter of the late William Earl Crawford and Lanie Cora Parker Crawford. Mrs. Harris was the first employee hired by Hamilton Beach. She worked at Hamilton Beach for 32 years, retiring as supervisor of the Mixette Department. Later, Mrs. Harris worked at Mitchell Tractor. She was a member of the First Church of Christ. In her spare time, Mrs. Harris enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Mrs. Harris is survived by her son, Thomas E. Harris and wife, Marcia of Old Ford; daughter, Susan Manning and husband, Buster of Pantego; grandchildren, Brant Harris, Jenny Thompson, Tres Harris, Trey Manning, Zak Manning, Sarah Mayo, Dylan Mayo; great grandchildren, Carlos Manning, Lyla Thompson, Thomas Manning, Caroline Manning, Brynn Thompson, Ryan Harris, Elise Manning, Nora Manning and the expecting Banks Harris; brother, Dicky Crawford and wife, Betty Rose of Vanceboro; sister, Jo Ann Gray of Christiansburg, VA; two nephews, Ricky Crawford of Vanceboro, Gary Gray of Christiansburg, VA and niece, Jo Lynne Braxton of Vanceboro.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Mayo and the father of her children, Virgil Thomas Harris.

    The family would like thank Dr. Phillip Harris and his staff and Three Rivers Rehab Center for their compassionate care.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
