Press Release:

Good Afternoon:

Enjoy the weather now because in twenty-four hours it will not look like this. I just got off the phone with the NWS and they informed me that they may or may not issue a winter weather advisory for travel beginning 4:00pm tomorrow, Saturday.

Here are the facts as they gave them to me: Light rain should begin around 1:00 pm and will transition to snow as soon as the temperature and winds cause the change to occur. This could occur as early as 8:00pm and the sooner it occurs the higher the snow accumulation will be. We should expect to see some snow accumulation, but the amount is dependent on mother nature. The snow will stop falling Sunday morning around 4:00am as the winds continue to increase. We will see a small craft advisory for Sunday in the Pamlico Sound and Pamlico River.

The wind chill factor and the winds themselves will present a challenge if fighting a structure fire and appropriate protective actions should be taken for both issues by the department safety personnel on scene.

First responders will need to watch for slick roadways on bridges and culverts when responding Saturday Evening. Protected areas of highway under tree cover could be especially slick. They do not expect any ice or sleet accumulations from this Nor'easter. Once again Safety of our First Responders and the Public is the primary reason for this weather awareness correspondence.

I will send out further information if the NWS updates or changes their weather predictions.
