George Evitt Hopkins | Eastern NC Now

    George Evitt Hopkins, age 88, a resident of Washington, NC formerly of the Pamlico Beach Community, died Thursday February 16, 2023.

    Private services will be held.

    Mr. Hopkins was born in Beaufort County on October 5, 1934, to the late George Levi Hopkins and Armetha "Carrie" Wilkins Hopkins.

    Mr. Hopkins was a former commercial fisherman. He also loved recreational fishing. He was musically talented, could play many different instruments (such as guitar, violin, and banjo, just to name a few) and enjoyed singing.

    He had a love for animals especially the many stray cats he brought in his home and naming each one. He also loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.

    Survivors include his daughter, Bobbie Jo Gibbs, and husband Al of Washington. Four grandchildren, George R. Hopkins, Jr. and wife Jessie, Crystal Hopkins, Ryan Hopkins, Amber Ford, and husband Sawyer. Two great grandchildren, Molly Hopkins and Grayson Ford. And a sister Triffie Braddy and husband Mark of Washington.

    Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Becky Asby Hopkins, a son, George R. Hopkins, Sr. and a brother Elver Hopkins.
