At yesterday's monthly meeting of the North Carolina State Board of Education, board members heard an update about the review of academic standards in the areas of Science and Healthful Living.

The second draft of K-12 Science Standards was released on February 23rd. My thoughts on the first draft of the Science standards can be found here. You can review and comment on the draft standards here. Comments will be accepted until midnight on March 26, 2023. After comments are received, members of the Standards Writing Team will propose changes to the second draft.

Last August DPI delayed the release of Healthful Living Standards to the spring of 2023. The initial date was February. Release has now been moved to late March, with an expected presentation to the State Board of Education in April. The current Healthful Livings Standards can be viewed here. For additional information on the NC DPI Standards Review process, see here.

At today's meeting, the board unanimously approved a resolution saying it "supports the substantial investment in teacher pay in access of 10 percent for all teachers."

Yes-the resolution said 10 percent. And yes, I did cringe when I read "access" for excess. Let's just say it doesn't help the cause.
