Washington City Manager Resigns | Eastern North Carolina Now

The City of Washington, North Carolina loses another city manager.

Beginning to be known as the town that cannot keep a city manager, the city of Washington, NC government has lost yet another city manager, this one after just two years. City of Manager Josh Kay will leave to take over the managerial duties of South Carolina owned electric and water utility of the Santee Cooper complex.

This may have come as a surprise to the council members and the mayor, but I thought something might be up when I could not get a call back from the manager in regards to services that we offer at Symbiotic Networks (all manner of internet services and the owner of BCN), which currently exceeds all regional competitors. Instead, the City Manager chose to shop outside of the county, outside of the state, with no regard to a qualified local vendor, this local vendor.

It remains to be seen whether a wise choice was made, by the City Manager, in regards to the Vendor, CGI Communications, providing a suitable service to the city and its residents / businesses. I will formally critique their abilities in BCN, and whether it will be wise, going forward, for local businesses to connect to any ancillary platform provided by CGI Communications; specifically as to the quality of that platform in all respects - functionality, collection of traffic.

BCN already provides the most complete platform delivery system, which is proprietary, originating from northeastern North Carolina, with plans to expand to specific platforms for individual services, and supplied internet traffic from the county NOWs (BCN and the other fledgling county NOWs - some now coming into their own), as well as traffic gained from a superior searchable platform, which we (SNI) provide.

    "Shop local?" What folly.

What will not be local will be the city's current manager in just a few months. Manager Kay has requested that he remain with the city through may to help with the 2013/2014 fiscal budget process and to effect a smooth transition ... Leaving one to reasonably speculate: How long will the next Washington City Manager remain?
