Etta Mae Bullock Smith | Eastern NC Now

    Mrs. Etta Mae Bullock Smith, age 100, a resident of Belhaven, NC died Friday April 7, 2023, at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center in Washington.

    A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 11, 2023, at Belhaven Community Cemetery officiated by Jason Simpson. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

    Mrs. Smith was born in Beaufort County on September 11, 1922, daughter of the late Fred Dewey Bullock and the late Eva Mae Daniels Bullock. She graduated from high school in Belhaven. On July 19, 1940, she married Sherman Gray Smith who preceded her in death on June 8, 1977. Mrs. Smith worked at Blue Channel Crab Company and later became an instructor at several crab houses in Belhaven, teaching the art of crab processing through Beaufort County Technical College, Now Beaufort County Community College. She was a member of West Belhaven Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Smith loved working but her greatest love was for her family.

    Survivors are two daughters: Mary Etta Jones of Bath, and Liz Simpson of Belhaven; two grandchildren: Jason Simpson and his wife Julie of Fort Barnwell and Kari Wilson and her husband David of Havelock; and Five great grandchildren. She was predeceased along with her parents, and her husband, by a daughter: Patricia Smith and a son Manuel Smith; two sons-in-law: John Tankard Jones, who died two weeks ago, and Franklin Simpson who died in 2010; and two brothers: James and Bill Bullock.
