David C. Nelson, a long time Scituate resident before moving to NC, passed away on 4/11/2023 with his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Elizabeth (Bette) Nelson, by his side.

    David C. Nelson, a long time Scituate resident before moving to NC, passed away on 4/11/2023 with his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Elizabeth (Bette) Nelson, by his side. David was born in Boston MA and grew up in North Quincy. As a youth he loved and excelled at baseball playing for the Boston Elks, North Quincy High (1951) where he was captain of the baseball team and inducted in the NQHS baseball hall of fame. He attended Northeastern University (1956) on a baseball scholarship, where he was captain of the team and graduated with an accounting degree. After college he passed the CPA exam and worked for the company Haskins and Sells in Miami for several years. Deciding to return north, he settled in Scituate MA which he called home for almost forty years.

    In Scituate, he loved boating, fishing, clamming, tennis, golf and long walks to the harbor. He started his own accounting practice with an office in Quincy and was also a professor at Northeastern University teaching auditing for over 20 years. David was past president of the Quincy Lions club and a volunteer baseball coach for Scituate Youth baseball.

    After retiring, he and Bette moved to Chocowinity NC in the Cypress Landing community to enjoy warmer weather, play golf and make new friendships. They led an active social life as well as traveling the US visiting national parks and returning to Scituate in the summer.

    In addition to his wife Bette, David is survived by his sons David Nelson and his wife Rosemary Scituate MA., Robert Nelson Sterling MA, Steven Nelson Richmond, VA., Carl Nelson Tyngsboro MA and he has 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Priscilla Nelson Portland ME.

    The family would like to thank Washington NC Hospice Care and all the aides who provided such great care over the past several months. A memorial service will be held in Scituate MA with a date to be determined. Donations may be made to Chocowinity EMS 512 Hwy 33 Chocowinity NC 27817 in David's memory.
